“Fezzan's anger” movement in Libya threatens to halt the oil production

The citizens and activists in the cities of southern Libya escalated their movement in the face of the Tripoli authorities, and threatened to close the field of “Al-Sharara” oil if the region demands to improve the health sector, reactivate the gas station, "Obary", and the cessation of kidnappings and extortion are not met.

In fact, a number of young people in different cities of the south staged a strike on Tuesday, following the "Fezzan's anger" movement’s call, in front of “Al-Sharara” field in the “Merzak” basin (south-west of Libya). Moreover, they issued a statement on behalf of the movement, in which they threatened to disrupt “Al-Sharara” field and halt its production within a week, in case of the non-implementation of their demands, while they continued to set tents in front of the field to engage in a long-term strike, after being prevented from entering by security guards.

The Libyan people in the south suffer from exclusion and marginalization since the outbreak of the Libyan revolution that overthrew President Muammar Gaddafi, as well as, the lack of security in the region, which has become a safe resort for the cross-border armed groups. They also ask for the government intervention to settle the region's crises, such as the high cost of living, the shortage of the petroleum products, and the citizens’ kidnapping and bargaining by Chadian gangs.
