The reasons of the nurses and technicians of the health sector protest, in Morocco

The Moroccan nurses and health technicians launched a national strike on Tuesday and Wednesday, except for emergency and reanimation, along with a national strike in front of the Ministry of Health during the first day of the strike, following the ministry’s blocking of the social dialogue.

The National Committee of Nurses of the National University of Health issued a statement confirming that this strike came after the issuance of Decree No. 553.17.2, which was issued in a single non-participatory manner that made it unresponsive to the depth of the demands and contrary to the provisions of the 2011 constitution. The report referred to the miserable situation of nurses and health technicians, at the national level, in light of the legal gap and the absence of a national committee that protects and promotes the development of the nursing profession, just like the developed countries.

The strike also follows a growing number of attacks and harassment of workers across the Moroccan Kingdom, especially in many regions that are still witnessing tension, because of the poor governance and management.

The committee called for the reconsideration of the decree by the cancellation of the two branches system and admit the retroactive effects of this system, at least since 2011, in which the nurses raised their fundamental demands, declaring their support and solidarity with the assaults’ victims, men and women in the health sector, calling on the Ministry of Health to intervene immediately to put an end to this phenomenon.

The committee also renewed its call on the ministry and the government to meet and discuss seriously these issues and meet this group’s demands, which is the backbone of the health sector. Moreover, it called for the creation of sufficient financial posts to integrate all the graduates and to reject any form of contracting in the health sector.
