9 thousand nurses are still unemployed in Morocco

Many nurses from different health centers in Morocco launched a strike on Tuesday and Wednesday, following the National Federation of Health’s call in conjunction with the strike held by the health technicians, in protest against the Ministry of Health's procrastination policy regarding the occupational and social demands of workers.

The protesters stressed that their demands have been stuck since 2006, in addition to the layoff of some nurses, and the allocation of inadequate financial positions, which contributed to the aggravation of the situation and led to the unemployment of more than 9 thousand people, while the system has many vacancies.

The nurses called for a review of the promotion system and the adoption of four years instead of the current six to pass the professional proficiency exam just like the other departments within the same sector.

On the other hand, the National Committee of Nurses and Health Technicians called for the redressing of the victims of Decree 2.17.535 by settling the status of all the categories both the holders of a two- or three-year certificate, unconditionally and retroactively. Moreover, it called for the ensuring equity in the compensation of the occupational hazards by adopting the principle of equality.

The committee considered that the establishment of the National Committee of Nurses and Health Technicians urgently, and the employment of these groups of nurses and health technicians, through the creation of adequate financial positions that include all the specialties, is a red line that cannot be crossed, calling on the concerned authorities to review the conditions of promotion for nurses and health technicians, regarding the percentage in use and the years passed in the proficiency exam.
