A number of reformatory prisons in Baghdad have witnessed tension and anger among the guards, recently because of the ministry's refusal to pay the food allowance, despite the approval of the parliament.
Consequently, dozens of guards entered in a strike about two weeks ago, and confirmed in media statements that the ministry promised to provide food allowances for more than five thousand members of the reform prison guards in all the country, amounting to 270 thousand dinars per month for each one, after its approval by the parliament.
The sources said that the ministry delayed in the payment of the guards’ every month dues and postponed them until last August announcing that it will refer this issue again to the parliament.
It is noteworthy that the guards of the reform prisons entered in a hunger strike in “the second, fourth, and fifth prisons”, the" Four Saide" prison, gatekeepers, vehicles, and emergency workers. In fact, they rejected all the food they received, while others returned it to the contractual workers as it was of bad quality.
