The General Union of Teachers and Educators in Southern Yemen announced, last Saturday its boycott of the new academic year 2018/2019 and called for the announcement of a general strike on the first day of it.
The General Union confirmed in its statement that the strike will include the Ministry of Education and all the educational offices in the provinces, as well as the departments of education in the directorates and in all schools.
The General Union held the government moral and political responsibility for the economic deterioration of the teachers and educators’ situation, in the south due to the deterioration of the currency, the high prices and low salaries, due to the government's suspension of the civil service law implementation, as well as, the system of wages and salaries and the repercussions of the war in the country.
The General Union called on the president “Abed Rabbo Mansour” to intervene immediately and quickly to stop the economic deterioration, announcing a protest program as an escalation to meet their social and professional situations and improve their living conditions.
