High emergency alert to confront the cholera bacteria in Algeria

The Ministry of Health, Population and Hospital Reform has adopted an emergency health plan for the health insurance in the borders, in view of the detection of dangerous diseases in Algeria, such as cholera and malaria.

The Ministry of Health instructed the health centers in the borders to raise the level of "precautionary alertness " in order to prevent the entry of such diseases in Algeria, which would threaten the public health of the Algerians. Thus, all migrants have to undergo the medical examinations, especially those who entered Algeria through the South border.

Among the measures included in the guide issued by the Ministry of Health, the obligatory adherence to the hygiene conditions, the use of protective gloves and mouth muzzles, the continuous washing of hands with the disinfectants, and the non-washing of the emergency department workers and infectious diseases clothes at home, in order to prevent the transmission of the disease.

The procedures include how the medical staff treat the suspected cases of fever and diarrhea, and the need to identify the other symptoms accompanying them, especially as it is a contagious disease. In addition, the medical practitioners must notify their nearest referral medical centers of all the medical cases, in order to dispatch medical teams to verify and isolate the injuries at the right moment in solitary rooms to limit the disease.

The control measures have also been tightened on all migrants and refugees in the borders, as a precaution of the existence of any kind of epidemics that are widespread in the countries they came from, such as “Tamanrasset”, which is close to the Malian border, in addition to the sending of medical teams to verify the epidemiologic status.

In the same regard, the health facilities at the Algerian borders with Mali and Niger are on high alert, with campaigns to kill the disease-transmitting insects due to the doubling of malaria cases in Northern Mali.

The same interests have been identified as local epidemiological foci, in addition to cases from African migrants, in view of the irregular migration, where the ministry has been instructed to remain vigilant about the cases of severe fever and diarrhea.
