The Coca-Cola factory in Mégrine is witnessing a deteriorating social situation and growing congestion, during these days because of the accumulation of the professional and social problems of workers and the disregard of the general administration of the union’s demands and it negligence of dialogue and negotiations.
The crisis continued until the tragedy of the death of one worker due to the administration's neglect and refusal to authorize him to leave the work and visit the doctor after he felt ill.
As a reaction to this incident, the workers of the factory entered in a daily open-ended strike, which starts immediately after they finish their work, in protest against the arbitrary administrative procedures that led to the death of their colleague and against the accumulation of their professional and social problems.
Some trade union sources confirmed that the director of the institution bears all responsibility of this incident and the crisis it followed due to the violation of the labor laws and the worsening of the social situation.
The sources pointed out that the director has reduced the working hours unilaterally without consulting and discussing with the trade union party, a process that led to the loss of the workers’ wages while they are suffering from the deterioration of their purchasing power and complaining about the high prices.
The director general took also new measures concerning the work schedules in a way that it does not fit the nature of the work, which caused tension and confusion regarding the normal functioning of work and the work schedules. Moreover, he has even imposed lengthy and complicated procedures concerning the enjoyment of the regular holidays, annual leaves and sick leave, and of course workers of his acquaintances enjoy facilities and privileges …
On the other hand, the director still refuses to implement the minutes of the 2016 workers' tax exemption, which has a retroactive effect for 2014, 2015 and 2016, and excludes workers of special promotions.
