Morocco: The “Chichaoua" mines’ workers have been without salaries since April

The miners of “Sksawa”, located in a mountainous region in the province of “Chichaoua", Morocco, announced that their area became a "miserable zone" as a result of the daily suffering, including hunger, thirst, disease and the inability to guarantee a minimum standard of living, while there is no response from the authorities.

The local sources said that the suffering of miners and their families in the province increased deeply after that the mine’s management stopped paying the workers’ salaries since last April and dishonored its commitments to more than 300 miners.

The workers and their trade union representatives threatened to escalate and decided to protest in to the capital Rabat, to express their sufferings in front of the central authority, as they lost confidence in the local officials, who played the role of the spectator doing nothing, without taking a stand against the arbitrary decisions of the miners' administration. These arbitrary decisions include stopping the supply of electricity and drinking water to the workers’ houses.
