The workers of the Yemen Arabian Sea Ports Corporation launched on Wednesday a total and open-ended strike asking for the cancellation of the Minister of Transport’s decision to appoint a vice president to the corporation from outside its cadres, which was met with protest and union rejection.
The employees and workers of the Yemen Arabian Sea Ports Corporation responded to the call for a total strike launched by the trade union committee of the corporation. In addition, the various departments of the port and the administration stopped working completely, paralyzing the trade and shipping movement, as well as, the activity of all the facilities in the port.
The trade union committee accused the minister of being responsible of all the consequences and repercussions of his arbitrary decision.
Last Sunday and Monday, the employees of the Yemen Arabian Sea Ports Corporation had entered a partial strike for one hour, followed by a two-hour strike on Tuesday, preceded by three protest vigils before they entered the general open-ended strike, which started from Wednesday in protest against the Minister's decision.
