The Occupied Territories: the re-hiring of eight nurses from “Om Al-Fahm” back to their work

On last Wednesday, the District Labor Court approved on the immediate return of 8 kindergarten assistants from “Om Al-Fahm” to their work after that they filed a lawsuit against “Om Al-Fahm” municipality in which they claimed that they were arbitrarily and illegally fired due to the closure of a number of kindergartens.

The court included the Histadrut and the Ministry of the Interior in the case, and decided to form an examination committee, the results will contribute to the reinstatement of the rights of the female employees once they were proved to be innocent.

The employees have organized a protest campaign inside the municipality building, in addition to hiring lawyers to plead and file a lawsuit for them.

It is noteworthy that this issue began after the opening of the previous school year, where there were demands for the return of these female employees to return to their work, while the municipality is in fact, firing them at the end of each academic year and then hire them back at the beginning of the next academic year, which is contrary to the Labor Law and labor agreements in the local authorities.

The court ruled in its first session that this dismissal was illegal and arbitrary by deliberating the case and approved the inclusion of both the Ministry of Education and the Histadrut to hear them about what is happening in the local authorities against the employees. After that the state and the Histadrut submitted their positions, the municipality was forced to abandon the firing of the female employees. In addition, a decree was issued confirming the nullification of this arbitrary dismissal and that the female workers would be included in the work program, at the beginning of the next school year.
