The Iraqi Prime Minister “Haidar Al-Abadi” dismissed the Minister of Electricity “Qasim Al-Fahdawi” in an unprecedented measure, three weeks after the beginning of the protests in the southern of Iraq to protest against corruption, poor services, power cuts and water shortages.
During the protests in the south, the protestors asked for the dismissal of “Al-Fahdawi” because of the severe weakness in the electricity services, as the Iraqi families receive electricity only for limited hours a day.
“Najaf”, south of the country has witnessed the largest protest among the Iraqi provinces on Friday after weeks of protests that resulted in the death of a number of protestors.
In Basra, where the protest movements started, dozens of protestors gathered outside the provincial council building, asking for the provision of services and job opportunities, while others went to the sites of the oil companies working in the province.
The Iraqi national electricity system has lost 50 percent of the production of its stations, because of the exit of 5 lines of electricity transfer, with ultra-pressure service, in the southern and northern regions, before being processed later.
