The national printing press workers entered into a labour strike because of: the accumulated debts, mismanagement and the Mauritanian government non-intervention

Workers of the Mauritanian national printing press launched a strike on June 20 and 21 in protest against their unpaid delayed salaries for four months, which led to the halt of the publication of government and private newspapers.

Our trade union sources stressed that the crisis experienced by the national printing press requires a government decision to repay the debts of the institution and to restart it on new stable and fixed bases.

The national printing press, printing the "People" and "Horizon" journals failed to pay regular salaries to its 115 workers due to the lack of financial support provided by the government. The national printing press did not obtain the debts demanded by its trading partners, headed by the Mauritanian News Agency of the two government journals above mentioned.

The only Mauritanian national printing press collapsed due to financial problems caused by poor management and the government's non-payment of the debts demanded by the printing press.

The Mauritanian newspapers had disappeared, earlier this year because the paper crisis at the national printing press, and the situation developed until the printing press was unable to continue its services.

The workers' strike included all the workers of the printing press, as confirmed by our sources.
