Dozens of workers of “the Arab Pulovara" Spinning and Weaving Company in Alexandria face the decision of their expulsion on charges of incitement to strike and protest against the formation of the board of directors of the union through elections, and their attempt to confront the administration in excluding opponents from the elections and impose certain names on the union.
The "Freedom of Expression of Workers and Social Movements" program of the Arabic Network for Human Rights Information (ANHRI) expressed its rejection of the disciplinary action taken by the Foundation's administration to dismiss 26 workers because of their strike in protest against the formation of the board of directors through elections.
These workers stroke from 20 to 28 May, in protest against the interference of the administration in the trade union elections in the company and the victory of the council of the union by acclamation. These workers were surprised after returning from Eid Al-Fitr holiday by their layoff by the administration, counting four days of the strike as absence while, four others were deducted from the annual leave.
The "Freedom of Expression of Workers and Social Movements" program expressed its solidarity with the workers of the company, to strike peacefully as a mean of expressing their opinion, defending their right to freely choose their representatives in the union, rejecting threats and falsifying the workers' will, asking the company’s management to withdraw from expelling the protesting workers and to return them immediately to their work.
