The Jordanian Ministry of Labour reported that about 4000 migrant workers have been deported to their countries since the beginning of this year, most of them are Egyptians, for violating the provisions of the Labour Law.
The ministry revealed that it organized 40161 inspection visits to establishments, companies and institutions in different governorates to ascertain the extent of compliance of these establishments with the Labour Law, which resulted in the seizure of 6228 migrant workers, the deportation of 3975 workers for the violation of the provisions of the Labour Law, and the sending of 2559 letters of advice and guidance to the establishments, 2141 warnings about the provisions of the law , 279 closure warnings and 2490 violations.
The Ministry also indicated that the number of migrant workers obtaining work permits for the same period amounted to 192309 workers, working in various economic activities, including 39635 migrant workers in the agricultural sector.
The number of Egyptian workers in various sectors is about 60%. While the percentage of Syrians is about 10% and the migrant workers rate was the highest in the province of "Irbid" followed by "Zarqa" and then "Balqa" and the capital Amman.
Jordan has stepped up its crackdown on foreign workers who have been working for several years to control the labour market and provide job opportunities for Jordanians due to the high unemployment rate of 18.4 percent in the first quarter of this year.
The government has given migrant workers several opportunities to settle their situation, but more than 500 000 workers, according to official estimates, have not settled their situation and are working illegally in the country.
