The General Federation of Bahrain Trade Unions issued yesterday a statement on the new pension law in which it expressed its commitment to the right of fair representation in the board of directors of the Social Insurance Authority and its categorical rejection in principle of any amendment to Law No. 3 of 2008.
The General Federation was surprised by the campaign asking the citizens to have discussions of whether they are with or against the amendment of the law as if it was a must, while no one talks about the management and the investment of the resources of the commission, which did not address the failures, stressing what is important is not to amend the law and violate the gains of workers who have worked hardly over decades to get them.
The Union also expressed its surprise that the statement on the investment of one billion of the funds of the authority in the oil is not issued by the Social Insurance Authority but issued by the part that will invest the amount. Noting that it is customary that the statement is usually issued by the investor and not by the party that will benefit from the investment, which reveals the importance of monitoring and reviewing the investment policy of the authority, especially since this good must adhere to a fixed quorum of its funds for safe investment and guaranteed profit.
On the restructuring of the Board of Directors of the Social Insurance Authority, the General Federation valued this measure, especially the guarantee of the efficiency of the authority members, stressing that the decisions taken by the authority in the absence of the working party representing the insured are decisions that invalidate the representation of their interests.
The General Federation affirmed its commitment to the right of workers of representation and participation at the decision-making table in the authority, noting that it had already submitted the names of its representatives and it is still waiting for the formation of this authority entrusted with the management of the most important body in the country.
