The Democratic Labour Confederation announced that it will launch a national general strike on Wednesday (20 June) to protest against the government's failure to social dialogue with trade union centres in Morocco.
The Confederation called on the Moroccan state to open a national dialogue for comprehensive and deep reform, so as to achieve social and democratic justice after the rise of social protests. It declared its rejection of the government's choices which led to the current social, the widening the circle of poverty, fragility, social marginalization and economic exclusion.
In a communiqué, the Confederation affirmed the spread of corruption, tyranny of monopolies and privileges, the deepening of social inequalities and the successive raising of the prices of basic commodities and the elimination of social gains such as retirement and job stability, highlighting that the government has not been responsible and persisted in the absence of social dialogue and the adoption of unjust unilateral decisions. In addition, it has deliberately restricted trade union freedoms, ignored the guarantee of the right to work for unemployed youth and continued the policy of austerity and the freezing of wages and compensation, according to the text of the statement.
The Confederation has affirmed that the 20th June strike is a "peaceful civil strike, in defence of workers and the country, and in order to contribute to rebalancing society and balance the state's relationship with society, saving the country and confronting the unprecedented and cruel attack on the social gains and the purchasing power of citizens , as well as, the confrontation of the greed of capitals and monopolies and the resulting price rises, in addition to the confrontation of dependence on capital and the coalition of power and money and the wild neoliberal tendencies, which eliminated the public services of education, health, housing and decent work and deepened class differences.
Moreover, the Confederation and several other social and political organizations protest against the serious human rights violations and systematic restrictions on freedoms. They asked for the release of all political detainees and the cessation of attacks on the activists of democratic organizations.
