The 20th June is the anniversary of the “Komira Martyrs” in Morocco

The Moroccan Federation of Democratic Unions announced its intention to launch a national general strike on 20 June, in commemoration of the "1981 strike" known as the "Komira martyrs" strike and in protest against the high prices and the deterioration of the purchasing power of citizens.

The federation called in its appeal " to join the strike to stop the government policy that led to a structural social crisis as a result of the unpopular and non-democratic choices of economic policies and the elimination of gains and rights such as retirement and career stability.”

The Federation called to take the necessary measures to promote honest competition in the economic field, strengthen the purchasing power of the affected groups and accelerate the activation of the competition council, as well as, to improve the income through the increase in wages and pensions and reduce tax pressure, in the hope of opening a comprehensive dialogue and real reform to achieve social justice and democracy.

It should be noted that the strike of 20 June 1981 was called by the Confederation of Democratic Labour, following the increase in prices that reached record levels and caused a major crisis after clashes between security forces and strikers, which led to the death of many people who will be called by the former Interior Minister, “Idriss Basri” the “Komira Martyrs”.
