Iran: Truck drivers protest against their harsh living conditions

According to labour and human rights sources in Iran, the strike of truck drivers and heavy vehicles continued, despite the repressive and deceptive measures by the authorities to protest against their harsh living conditions. Dozens of drivers closed a number of freight stations across the country and at the border points.

The drivers protested in "Sindj”, in front of the oil company "Bharan" and in "Ardabil". In addition, taxi drivers protested in a number of cities, in solidarity with the truck drivers, which number reached about 500 thousand truck drivers, who are upset by their poor financial situation, according to what was revealed by the Council the Iranian Shura.

On the other hand, the authorities stepped up their arbitrary measures against the drivers’ protest movement, as it was the case in the city of "Shiraz", where the security forces violently attacked a convoy of trucks, which was trying to join the protestors in the abovementioned city, arresting dozens of drivers.

Moreover, many drivers were arrested in the cities of “Kengaur”,” Bandar Abbas and the “Sabhan” cement factory, and shots were fired in the air to disperse the strikers.
