The ILO Standards Committee decides to dispatch a mission to investigate the status of trade unions’ freedoms in Algeria and the authorities protest

The Algerian news agency reported that the Algerian delegation, participating in the recent International Labour Organization (ILO) conference in Geneva, led by the Minister of Labour, rejected the decision of the Committee for the implementation of the standards in the organization to dispatch a high-level mission to examine the reality of trade unions’ freedoms in Algeria.

The Algerian delegation withdrew from the work of the committee, considering that this decision was "a violation of the national sovereignty and independence of the Algerian judiciary … and that Algeria provided all the information that could contribute to the enlightening the committee on the observations made to Algeria by the experts’ committee, together with all the supporting documents and supporting justifications ", according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Labour.

To point out, the Algerian authorities have been the subject of many international criticisms of their violations of the trade union freedoms and their repeated arrests of the active unionists in independent trade unions.
