The Algerian media stated that a meeting will be held between the social partners in the province of Algiers and the governor immediately after Eid al-Fitr to consider the decision issued by the latter, to cancel the retirement grant and death of workers of public institutions in the province.
The workers of several public institutions in the province of Algiers organized a protest to denounce the individual decision taken by the governor of Algiers regarding the cancellation of the retirement grant with 22 months with the death grant, which resulted in the subsequent agreement to hold a meeting and open the dialogue after Eid al-Fitr between the governor, social partners and representatives of the trade union subsidiaries of public institutions in the province and considered this decision.
According to a decision issued by the governor of Algiers on May 4, 2018, the 22-month retirement grant was abolished with a requirement to change it to a retirement grant ranging from one (1) to three (3) months maximum depending on the years of employment, cutting them from “the profits of these institutions", while he decided to cut the death grant estimated at 150 thousand Algerian dinars from social services, i.e. from the wages of workers, although these grants are the gains made by workers through the collective agreement for 2013, which is irreversible .
