Ramallah / “Al-Bira”: The Municipal council did not adhere to its commitments about the municipal workers

The workers of “Al-Bira” municipality in Ramallah carried out a strike on Saturday, against the the municipality's continued denial of workers' rights and the delay of the implementation of previous agreements with the union.

The workers’ trade union sent to the municipal council, about a month and a half ago, a formal announcement of the need to respond to the workers’ demands, before resorting to escalating steps, but the municipal council did not respond and insisted on procrastination, according to the statement of the union.

The workers gathered on Saturday morning with the union members, expressing their rejection of the council's continued procrastination and denial of the illegitimate agreements, demanding not to violate the acquired rights of workers and the payment of all allowances included in the system of employees of the local bodies of its beneficiaries.

The workers also asked for the instalment of workers, who have been working for more than three years and received a good evaluation, the adherence of article 8 of the regulations on the implementation of the workers’ local system and an internal declaration is necessary prior to the vacancy job announcement.

The workers also highlighted the need to let the salaries like they are, without freezing and the formation of a joint committee to settle the issue of joining the Palestinian Retirement Authority in addition to calculating the years of seniority for all employees and the cancellation of the decision to dismiss one of the employees and the illegal deduction of workers’ salaries.
