Tunis: Abassi: Austerity measures should not impact on the poor people who are already at a baseline

Tunis – The General Secretary of the Tunisian trade union confederation Husain Abassi said that the government should look for other solutions to save the crippled Tunisian economy, rather than resorting to austerity measures that only impact workers and the poor and public institutions.

Abassi also said in a press statement after the Union Administrative Board meeting today that the Prime Minister Yousef al Shahed recanted his statement regarding following austerity measures and dismissing employees from public sectors.

Abassi noted that a meeting will be held tomorrow with AL Shahed to discuss how the government will deal with these issues.
