Yemen – The Yemeni Journalists Syndicate has condemned the arbitrary death sentence handed down by the State Security Court in Sanaa to journalist Yahya Abdulraqeeb Al-Jubeihi in the second session of his trial. The court refused to allow al-Jubeihi and a lawyer the right of defense, while the lawyer appealed the ruling.
The union denounced this unconstitutional and legal provision, saying it reflected the de facto authority that targeted all elements of media and press freedoms and brought Yemen back to totalitarian and authoritarian covenants and spread fear and terror among journalists. The union said in a statement: Our colleague Abdulraqeeb Al-Jubeihi is a senior professor in the field of journalism and media. He has a history of professional work. He also has a presence in the Arab press and a former professor at the Media College and College of Information and studied in the United States and Britain. The union called on all local and international human rights organizations concerned with freedom of opinion and expression to cooperate with the colleague and reject this ruling and to work to stop the increasing violence against the press and journalists. On September 6, 2016, members of the National Security Service, accompanied by a womens police accompanied by vehicles and armored vehicles, raided the home of al-Jibihi. They searched him and searched his house, the contents of the house, his family and children felt scared, and took his mobile phone, computer, papers and files.
