Bahrain- The Labor Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) has begun to receive applications for flexible work permits in the coming days, in accordance with a new system introduced to provide a legal alternative to the free visa informal employment as a new mechanism to combat this phenomenon.
Flexible work is a permit issued by the LMRA to foreign workers for a period of two years, enabling them to work temporarily with any employer or more and in any profession that does not require a professional license to practice.
However, the new system does not grant these permits to fugitive workers (leaving work), nor does it accept the transfer of workers from the current employer to the category of flexible employment, and will be limited to existing workers in Bahrain and their declaration null or non-renewable before September 20, 2016.
According to the plan, the Authority will issue flexible work permits at the rate of 2000 permits per month with the review of the decision and its application on a continuous basis, while official statements indicate the existence of a loose labor estimated at more than 24 thousand workers.
The system requires the worker to obtain a special card that renews every 6 months. The worker will bear the cost of the license of 200 dinars (paid every two years), the cost of health care of 144 dinars (paid every two years) and a monthly fee of 30 dinars.
