Jordan: MESC Jordan Co. terminates its 365 workers

Jordan – MESC Jordan Co. for Cable Manufacturing has terminated the services of all 365 employees in the factory, and declared bankruptcy to restructure. The head of the General Union of Electricity Workers Ali AL Hadid demanded to amendment of the labour law, as it does not contain any text that protects the worker from arbitrary dismissal. Al-Hadid said that the company said in a circular that it would carry out a restructuring of the plant, which included dismissal of all workers. Noting that the company will lose 3.5 million JDs as a result of restructuring that could have been used to improve and support the work in the factory, and keep all workers.
