Yemen: “Houthis” kidnap seven international workers

Yemen – Yemeni security officials said on Friday that the “Huthis” had arrested seven local employees of the International Medical Corps and accused them of spying for foreign intelligence.

The officials added that the “Huthis” raided a hotel used by the relief organization in Ibb province, and took the staff to prison in the capital Sanaa.

The International Medical Corps said five of its employees and two drivers had been arrested and were working to secure their release so that they could continue to help the war-affected population.

Despite the ongoing conflict that has caused a steady deterioration in humanitarian conditions across the country since 2015, our relief efforts continue to provide lifeline for families, said Rebecca Gustafson, a spokeswoman for the organization.

The rebels, a Shiite sect in northern Yemen, raided the south until the capital in late 2014, leading to the presidents escape several months later. In March 2015, a Saudi-led coalition launched an air and ground campaign to overthrow the rebels, but the campaign did not go much further than its southern stronghold.
