Egypt: Center for Trade Union calls for a revision of the minimum wage annually

Egypt- Center for Trade Union and Workers Services xpressed its objection to the new Labour Law and issued a number of proposals regarding the wage section.

The center said that according to the proposal, which was sent to the parliament,  the new draft law came in contrary to the provisions of Article 34 of the current Labour Law No. 12 of 2003, where the mechanism of the National Council for wages was not organized, but it was almost completely disrupted, except for a few exceptions to the attempts of the meeting failed to achieve results, and in the absence of a reasonable wage binding and applied on workers in all sectors, there are what are considered wage chaos, a fixed wage of small value and variable wages that are controlled by market conditions with little or no insurance coverage. The center also said that all of these elements are controversial and the subject of permanent labour disputes. Workers are demanding an increase in insurance pay while employers refuse saying that they get affected by the increases in burdens
