A professional tragedy for daily wages workers in electricity and air transport: Protest marches are held, asking for the settlement of their situation in the provinces of Iraq

Yesterday, hundreds of workers of daily contracts and wages in the electricity and air transport sector carried out marches in “Baghdad”, “Babylon” and “Basra”.They were asking for the payment of their salaries overdue for several months, designation and the implementation of the Iraqi Labour Law No. 37 of 2015 and the Law on Pensions and Social Security for Workers No. 39 of 1971. In addition, they asked for their social security coverage retroactively, since the date of employment.

They also called for ensuring their professional future within the project of service and investment taxation after converting the system of the ministry according to the new law from the system of directorates to the system of public companies, which raised the concern of workers in the electricity sector from the privatization of these companies and thus workers and employees will face an unknown fate, aftermany years of the service.

The protesters threatened to intensifytheir protests in the coming days,if their demands are not met and not included in the federal budget law of 2018.
