Palestine – The Palestinian trade union movements rejected any form of intervention and guardianship over its work. They objected the decision made by the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, in which he called for immediate action to implement the agreement signed by the secretaries general of the PLO factions. This came during a meeting between President Abbas and Secretary General of the General Union of Palestinian Workers Haider Ibrahim, and The Palestinian General Federation of Trade Unions Shaher Saad. The trade union movement considered Presidents remarks, a kind of imposition of guardianship. The unions issued a statement confirming their rejection of these decisions and demanding reconsideration of its decision that will harm trade union freedoms and re-fragmentation of the trade union movement and its active organizations. It also expressed its total rejection of any governmental intervention in its affairs or any attempts to contain it and impose its guardianship from any party. They also declared in the statement that they will continue defending trade union freedoms, including freedom of expression and political action and the freedom to form trade unions and public organizations and to carry out their trade union activities, as guaranteed by the Declaration of Palestinian Independence, the Palestinian Basic Law, the Interim Constitution, national and international legislation and laws. The statement said: We refuse to circumvent the conventions and national understandings related to the unity of the blocs and trade unions within the framework of The Palestinian General Federation of Trade Unions – the most representative trade union organization – including the results and decisions of the Fifth General Conference held in the presence of national and international broad, and the agreement between the blocs and trade unions in May 2015 in the presence of the Secretaries-General and representatives of national forces and factions.
