Tunisia – – The delay in pensions payments has raised anger and resentment among retirees. Trade unions announced that they will organize protests to express their anger and pressure the government to pay the pensions. The General Union of Education of the General Union of Tunisian Workers said it is preparing to carry out a series of protests including sit-in in front of the Ministry of Education in Tunis and its branches in other provinces because of the failure to pay the financial dues of retired teachers for four months. Their retired colleagues are in a severe crisis and have been insulted, the unions secretary-general Almastoury Al-Qamoudi told a local radio station. Al-Qamoudi called on the government to accelerate the disbursement of pensions to end the crisis. Abdelkarim Jarad, Assistant Secretary General for Health and Social Welfare of the General Union of Tunisian Workers, said that the workers organization supports every move that the education union intends to implement in order to claim its rights and activate previously signed agreements.
