Algeria – A number of journalists in various national newspapers organized a solidarity stand at the Press House in Algiers with journalists of the French-language newspaper La Tribune, which has been suspended since August 10. It is noteworthy that the Amayar partners in the limited liability company Aminum Morocco Press responsible for the issuance of this newspaper had filed a petition to the judge to oppose the liquidation of the institution, as stated by the widow of Khairuddin Amyar during a press conference held at the headquarters of the National Union. She condemned the decision to shut down the newspaper and referred its workers to unemployment. No one can demand to dissolve a newspaper in front of an urgent judge, and minority partners have no right to liquidate the institution, she said. For its part, the National Union of Journalists confirmed that it will initiate an urgent case through its lawyers to defend the social rights of workers. LaTribune newspaper has stopped publishing after the decision of the shareholders of the institution (Jamal Jarad and Sharif Tifawy) to submit an urgent request to court in order to stop the activities of the Foundation. Tifawy said It is impossible to continue publishing the newspaper because the company is suffering financial deficit since 2002, as well as legal difficulties”.
