Egypt – During the past two days, security forces arrested eight workers, including six real estate and public tax union, and two leaders of the Independent Electricity Union. The security also raided houses of other workers, including Tarek Kaib a leader at public taxes union, police also canceled a training workshop and refused to allow a protest for tax workers who wanted to claim their rights. Labour sources said that the 3 arrested unionist from the Real Estate Tax Union are Saeed Ali Jamea, Ayman Fathi Sabbagh and Mahmoud Zaidan and 3 of the public taxes, are Tariq Ibrahim Fathi “ Tarek Kashef”, Mohamed Bassiouni Hassan Badr and third in Port Said could not be named, in addition to two electricity leaders: Mohamed Hindawi Saeed, Abdul Ghaniemi Doos. The cooperative said that the recent campaign comes as a continuation of the escalating attack on independent trade unions, noting that the arrest of members of the Independent Union of Electricity Workers came after their participation in the training of the Union of State Administrative Employees. This comes at the time when security forces refused to allow a protest that was planned to take place on the 19th of September. The cooperative said that the new security attack on the leaders of the independent trade unions comes in line with the situation of restrictions on public freedoms and the right to expression, as well as the restriction on the right to organize freely and independently. The declared its solidarity with the unions, which suffer because of the ruling regime that only follow restrictions to justify its practices and deprives employees to claim their rights.
