Palestine: Workers protest to demand a raise in minimum wage

Palestine – A number workers and representatives of NGOs and national figures from the left-wing forces, called on the government to apply the minimum wage and equal pay for work, and to raise the minimum wage in Palestine, to become (2480) shekels, in line with the national poverty line. The National Committee for Minimum Wage and Equal Remuneration for Equal Work organized the protest which was held in front of the Council of Ministers following the massive march that took place in front of the Orthodox Club in downtown Ramallah. Statistics Authority announced that a family of 5 persons (adults and 3 children) with a monthly income less than NIS 2,480 per month is poor family. The National Committee for Minimum Wage and Equal Remuneration for Equal Work consist of 32 different institutions, unions that can be expanded and increased. They stressed the importance of the immediate implementation of the minimum wage decision, the statement said that the government failure to apply the decision led to exploitation of the Palestinian labour forces as they are forced to work with wages below the minimum limit.
