Tunisia – The General Union of Railways affiliated to the General Union of Tunisian Workers has called for diversifying the transport of goods, planning and improving the transportation of grain, chemical fertilizers and iron. The union said in a statement that the workers of the sector would enter into protest movements if the authorities did not respond to the various demands aimed at improving and developing the railway sector and improving the physical and professional conditions of its workers. The General Union of Railways said that the sector is suffering from a severe shortage of equipment, the deterioration of infrastructure and mismanagement of human resources, which has affected the quality and safety of services as well as the continued closure and freezing of many stations and lines, which negatively affected the revenues of the national company and greatly reduced its contribution to the national effort for development.
