Egypt: Fake employment opportunities for Egyptian workers in Lebanon

Egypt – Minister of Manpower Mohamed Saffan issued an immediate directive to the Labour Representation Office at the Egyptian Embassy in the Lebanese capital Beirut to take urgent measures against brokers and human traffickers and to restrict them by all means. Brokers take advantage of young people wishing to travel to Lebanon by taking large sum of money in order to find them job opportunities; however these job opportunities are not real. The Minister called on workers wishing to travel and work in Lebanon to go to the employment offices of the labour force departments of the labour office in their place of residence and to register their data in the databases prepared for that purpose. The Minister received a report from the Labour Counselor in Beirut, Adel Dawood Yousef, in which he pointed out that the Labour Representation Office, was confronting brokers and human traffickers, the last of these procedures was the withdrawal of a waiver from each sponser for bank guarantee in favor of the worker before his presence in Lebanon, The agreement was reached with the Lebanese side through the joint committee of the two countries on the project of electronic link between the Ministries of Labour in Egypt and Lebanon to ensure full transparency in the recruitment process,” said the labour councilor
