Egypt: police arrests 15 workers for protesting

Egypt – Police arrested 15 workers at Sinmar plant in South Port Said under the pretext of closing the cooling unit and exposing the factory to an environmental disaster or an explosion, according to the head of the workers union at the factory Mohammed Abdul Latif. The arrest came at the time when workers are still on strike for the second week inside the factory due to the dismissal of  24 workers who demanded the activation of environmental safety measures for the surrounding population area and the workers in the factory. Abdul Latif explained that the cooling units in the factory are fixed and entered maintenance yesterday and are still under maintenance and have no effect in case of not operating the plant. He pointed out that the management of the factory rejected any negotiations and the Directorate of Manpower intervened and said that the members of the union were dismissed and management filed  complaint against workers for protesting.
