Morocco: The governments disregard of trade unions demands portends social tensions and protests

The Moroccan Secretary General of the UMT“Miloud Moukharik”, warned the Ottoman government of pushing Moroccan workers to protest because of their irresponsible handling of social dialogue, claiming it was copied from the previous government in dealing with the file.

The government suspended earlier social dialogue sessions, which angered the unions, that considered that the government ignored their social demands and did not kept the promises and adhere to the commitments made by the Ottoman”. Moreover, the Finance Act of 2018 was passed without taking into account the proposals and demands of trade unions.

This tense situation, caused by the government and the lack of political will to establish a concrete social dialogue, has angered the Moroccan unions, which may escalate their protests in the coming days to confront thegovernment policy and take into consideration of the requirements of the impoverished social groups.
