The Regional Union for Labour in “Tataouine” issued a strongly worded statement, in which they threatened to enter in a strike, to defend the right of the region in having fair development. Moreover, they denounced the governments non-adherence to its commitments, regarding the South Gas Project, which did not start as the pipeline to “Tataouine” has not been completed in parallel with the main line to “Gabes”, which is nearing completion
The Union warned the government of the consequences of underestimating the governorate’s right to benefit from its wealth. In addition, they warned of making excuses on the grounds of the absence of requests for proposals, bowing to what it is called lobbies of corruption and traditional control centres, which have seized all deals in energy and gas, fuelled by the anger of the people of the governorate. Thus, in case of absence of action and the non- implementation the project, people will opt for protests.
