During these days, calls for the prevention of the recruitment of female domestic workers from Mauritania to Saudi Arabia and the cancellation of the agreement between the two countries have been increased. The latest is a call by the former Minister of Higher Education, “Bakaywalad Abdel Malik”, who asked the king of Saudi Arabia to prevent the Mauritanians from working as domestic assistants as it can be considered as rights’ violation.
Many human rights organizations assert that domestic workers employed in Saudi Arabia are being exploited for wages and deprived of social protection, as well as subjected to sexual harassment and beatings.
