The absence of safety and health standards in Egypts factories

Dr. “Mohamed al-Baghdadi”, an expert in occupational safety, affirmed that the rules of occupational safety are absent in Egypt’s factories and do not apply to their standards, which expose the workers to many health risks that they may encounter daily, indicating that the Ministry of Manpower does not have any evidence of a profession of occupational safety and health.

He pointed out that in Egypt there are only 400 inspectors of professional safety to inspect the implementation of safety standards, which is not enough for thousands of factories in the country. He also pointed to the spread of many fires and accidents that occurred inside the factories during the past years as well as occupational diseases, as the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics in Egypt confirmed that the total fires in Egypt in 2015 amounted to 37538 fires, in addition to human lives and large financial losses.
