The decision to raise the price of Egyptian petrol, gasoline and diesel, and its unification with the prices of Israeli fuel represented a crisis for taxi drivers in light of the harsh economic reality in Gaza Strip.
The drivers considered that the decision to raise prices is unfair to them and to the citizens. In fact, it makes them suffer from great difficulties during their work in the context of the difficult economic situation experienced by citizens in the area and the irregularity of government salaries and the absence of solutions to the problems of employees so far.
The daily income of the drivers, before the announcement of the decision to raise fuel prices did not exceed NIS 25, the equivalent of $ 6 per day. After the decision, their daily allowance was reduced to about NIS 10, i.e. only $ 2.
It is noteworthy that the Egyptian petrol was sold over the last year by 5.7 Israeli shekels and became 6.11 after the price raising, and the price of the diesel was 4.65 and became by 5.69 NIS Israeli.
