PALESTINE- General Union of Palestinian Women (GUPW) and Department of Women and Gender at the Palestinian General Federation of Trade Unions (PGFTU) met to draft an MOU to advocate for Palestinian women’s issues.
PGFTU secretary general, Shaher Saad pointed out that legislations and regulations in force fell short in field of protecting working women rights, especially the system of minimum wage and absence of social protection laws in addition to gaps in trade unions draft law.
The meeting, which discussed MOU draft, touched upon joint action plan,including development of legislations and laws on women’s employment sectors, in particular, the need for such laws and legislation to consider women working in agriculture and domestic workers. The meeting also discussed commemoration the International Women’s Day (March 8) by holding a unified commemoration program and a Palestinian trade union discourse, through sending two memos to the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and the Arab League calling for protection of women’s rights.
