Employers frame-up charges against workers

EGYPT- Trade Union leaders said there has been an increase in number of cases that involve chasing laborers and detain them in Egypt.
According to the activists, employers allegedly accuse any employee who asks for his rights of being a “terrorist”.
Ashraf Abbas, who is in charge of labor issues at Hisham Mubarak Law Centre, said chasing employees and claiming that they are terroristsin a “very dangerous” way.
He added that if an employee is allegedly charged of being a terrorist, without validating, “his detention will be renewed for another two months” and when he is released this will affect his behavior in society. “As a result, he will be notbeing able to distinguish between good and bad”.
To this end, Abbas called for developing a legislation that protects workers’ dignity and right to be investigated without detention, or to reduce the period of time allocated for investigation and to release the accused if he is proven innocent.
