MOROCCO- The Moroccan Workers’ Union (UMT) organized the International Forum for Trade Union Network in partnership with Italian General Confederation of Labor (CGIL), UGTT and the Friedrich Ebert Foundation (FES) in Casablanca to discuss the role of trade unions in migration issues in Mediterranean and sub-Sahara.
Forum issued Casablanca Declaration which provides, in effect, mechanisms governing work of Network and determines its structure components and scope. It provided for a steering committee and contact points in each of member states. Following to intensive negotiations; it has been agreed to select two members from each region in Steering Committee, where Morocco and Mauritania were selected to represent North Africa and Arab region, Senegal and Niger for sub-Sahara and Italy, in addition to another country (TBD) for European region, and Tunisia as a coordinator.
The attendants issued a trade union statement condemning the brutal attack against the Palestinian people and expressed the absolute and unconditional solidarity with people and workers of Palestine and their trade union movement.
