EGYPT— An Egyptian court has sentenced 10 of Alexandria library workers to one year in prison after being accused of protesting and disrupting work.
The sentence announced on Sunday was based on a lawsuit filed against them by the library’s director. However, eight others were ruled innocent from the accusations filed against them.
In November last year, the Alexandria police decided to refer 10 of the library’s workers to the court for taking part in a protest organized in October 2011.
Workers back then collected 1,700 signatures out of 2,400 workers in the library to dismiss the library director.
