Jordanian General Trade Union of Public Services and Free Vocations calls to raise minimum wages

JORDAN –GTPSFV President Khaled Abu Mrjob called for reconsidering the minimum wages paid to workers in various sectors.
“Minimum wage of JD190 a month does not cater for decent life conditions for workers anymore, especially those who work in free vocations, such as popular restaurants… etc.,” Abu Mrjobreleased in a press statement.
He also stated that decline in purchasing power on Jordanian Dinar and the continuous rise in prices has pushed all workers, from various categories and professions, down below poverty line, stressing on the need for stakeholders, especially Ministry of Labor, to stage inspection campaigns on small factories and professions to ensure that they pay minimum wage.
Abu Mrjob pointed out that sector his Union organizes includes 50,000 workers, most of whom are working in individual enterprises, calling to intensify inspection campaigns on those workplaces.
