Oman- Workers at ‘Weatherford Oman’ suffer from repeated arbitrary dismissal

OMAN- Weatherford Oman dismissed four workers, noting that same workers were dismissed and reinstated by the company in 2013. The Company dismissed workers because it failed to win a contract with Petroleum Development Oman Company (PDO) in 2012. The workers’ case was filed before Court of First Instance in Muscat more than two weeks ago.
According to president of the Oil and Gas Sector’s Workers Union (OGSWU) and Council member of General Federation of Oman Trade Unions (GFOTU), Mohammad Faraji; the company management prevented workers to move from one company to another partner in same tender, according to transference mechanism in same project, which he considered as an arbitrary dismissal and a violation of workers’ rights. He called through OGSWU for the need to take immediate preventive measures against this violation, especially in absence of labor competent courts.
