ALGERIA- (SNAPAP) participated in the EI conference representing the General Union of Algerian Workers (UGTA) held in Amman in December from 8 to 10, 2014 and attended by more than 15 country’s representatives.
The Conference reviewed EI’s Arab Countries Cross Regional Structure (ACCRS) report in the past years and arrangements to continue to campaign for quality education. Conference devised a strategy to raise participation of women and youth in trade union action. As part of the conference, decisions were issued in campaign for quality education and trade union rights. Recommendations were made to the EI General Conference on the prospects of political development and labor laws for unions of education in Arab countries, issues of equality and protection of women and rights of girls and immigrants in education without exception, in light of political developments storming the Arab region.
Within the framework of ACCRS conference, elections were held for members of EI Standing Committee in Arab region, where twenty candidates from Africa, Asia and Pacific region compete on nine seats. Results were as following: Palestine in the first place collected 46 votes, SNAPAP in second place in 36 votes, represented by Mariam Ma’rouf for a two year-term.
