AUC employees on strike

EGYPT – Employees in American University in Cairo (AUC) began a strike on Sunday, after administration frequently stepped back from its promises to independent trade union of university workers.

In a statement they issued, employees said, the main issues, already agreed upon, include that renewal of workers’ contracts, which should be done for a period of at least three years, staff promotions every five years as per university regulations, annual and periodic pay raises and other issues.

AUC employees have resorted to strikes on more than one occasion since October 2010. The last protest was a precautionary strike staged two weeks ago, which lasted for only one day.
Total staff at AUC is 2500.
