Mauritanian Journalists Union protest in solidarity with their Egyptian colleagues

MAURITANIA— Mauritanian journalists embarked on a strike as of today [Wednesday], protesting the mass expulsion of their Egyptian colleagues, in addition to the imprisonment that some are exposed to.

The strike will address rejection to the resolution issued last May by the Supreme Administrative Court in Egypt, which stated that the strike violates Islamic jurisprudence and the purposes of Islamic law, considering the the strike as an offense against the obedience to the superiors at work and duty”.

A statement issued by the Mauritanian Journalists Union considered this decision as a flagrant violation of the Egyptian constitution and a clear violation of all international treaties and conventions on labour laws signed by Egypt.
